Golf Course at Barnsley Resort

At just over two and a half hours from our home in Birmingham, AL, Barnsley Resort was the perfect escape for a long weekend set in the beautiful North Georgia mountains. From the moment you arrive on property until you reluctantly have to leave, there is an overwhelming sense of tranquility here. Whether you are walking the grounds with the historic gardens set amongst the ruins of the original home dating back to the 1840’s, or walking the championship golf course with rolling hills, you will be relaxed at this southern getaway. There are so many great options for activities and dining here, read more about those in Hannah’s post.

May was the perfect month to visit Barnsley Resort. The gardens were in full bloom, and the humidity of the south had not quite set in yet. I booked an early tee time so we would still have time for all the other amenities that Barnsley has to offer. The course was designed by Jim Fazio and can be described as a challenging layout amongst beautiful backdrops. The course meanders through over 370 acres of forest, mountain, valley, and streams with excellent elevation changes and a fabulous collection of par 3’s.  Playing here really gives you a sense of the ecological diversity this region of Georgia has to offer. The beauty of the surround is matched by the design of the course and it really feels like it belongs here. Some courses feel like the out of place, however Barnsley feels like it was thought of all along.

I was accompanied by countless wildlife during my round to include white tail deer, turkeys, a red fox, as well as a few birdies and an eagle. Some of that wildlife helps a golf score and some is cool to see along the course. The course has a very well stocked pro shop and restaurant, a performance center with a teaching studio, and a range to perfect your craft.

While I relaxed on the course enjoying the cool spring morning, Hannah found herself at the luxury spa on property. Our time spent at Barnsley was incredible and another great feature is that it is pet friendly. We can’t wait to visit again and bring Wellington with us.
